Anybody and everybody can be a writer, and this is why

Please permit me to say this, “your thoughts are too loud to be confined within your head,” and that is why you need to sell it.

If there is anything I have seen many people being scared to do; it is finding it difficult to at least craft a hundred words lines (I think I felt the same at one point though).

Unfortunately, if you have the right words and thoughts and don’t write them down, so many other people may say what they have heard from you but will miss out on the points, because as it goes from one person to another, the original content and intent is added to or lost, because they will be shared from a third-party speaker.

When people tell your story, they tell it from what they think about you, but when you tell it yourself, there is no contention. The question is, “how can you tell this story without losing facts and ideas even when you are no longer around?” The answer is simple and direct, “through writing.”

Writing is the most undebatable way to express our thoughts and words without being misunderstood. The intentions of my words can be misunderstood or even misjudged when spoken, but it has never been misunderstood when written. But then, you just pulled the wrong chord there — I know I have said what many people may be scared to try.

When I thought about this story, I went to Google and typed, “how many words do we speak in our mind?” Guess what I found?

Our mind speaks an average of 4,000 words per minute obviously ten times faster than a verbal speech — you haven’t said it all if you don’t write it down. This is according to research.

If you can listen to yourself, you have more things to tell the world, which would amaze you came from you. And in this story, I want to crack the codes to you on how you can sell your deepest thoughts to the world. And guess what? I believe anyone can because we all speak in our minds.

There may be exceptions to academic and technical writings, which follow a routine writing pattern and rule.

Take this from me, you don’t have less value to offer; it is just that you have not painted the picture beautiful enough for people to behold.

A story in your head isn’t a story. It’s just a daydream until you actually write it down. So write it down — Andy Weir.

There is an artist inside of you, find it

Everybody has a gift of imagination — they talk to you daily. What are the words it speaks? These are the things you need to find and arrange in a manner that people will appreciate.

And the best places are platforms like Medium, LinkedIn, Twitter, and your personal blogs.

Find your voice (your style of writing) and communicate in the manner your audience would understand, and possibly where people who would accept what you offer are.

Over seventy percent (70%) of the global search is done using Google and thirty-three percent (33%) use Bing in the US. What are they looking for? Your voice, in a manner it will please them.

Don’t worry, you will always see people who resonate with your voice.

So, let it out there.

Record your thoughts

Thoughts come like vibrations and shades, it is usually not clear all the time. But it doesn’t even need to be clear enough for you to start.

Sometimes, what you need to write will come like a topic. The entire direction of the topic would usually not be clear to you at that point. And the catalyzers of these thoughts are usually conversations, incidents, and nature (for me; you can discover yours).

What I do especially when I started writing would be to record my thoughts using my phone by saying the words that comes to my mind. I record them in parts as the ideas build up, and not long enough I would get a writing muse from all I am saying and I will turn into a writeup.

Aside from writing too, my girlfriend’s first track came from repeated words she began mumbling but at the end of the production it came out amazing.

I also think that aside from writing, recording your thoughts also works for other creative ideas.

Put it down a step at a time

Well, this step is like recording your thoughts, but then it is writing your thoughts in parts.

When you start off, it will not be easy. But do not be hard on yourself, take it a step at a time.

If you come up with a few lines of thoughts feel free to, relax and do other things. When I started, sitting on my piece for 5 minutes would always seem like I have spent half of my day right in one place.

The exercise you can do further is to keep adding flesh to a particular piece every day until it makes sense. With time, you can naturally sit on an article or story for even 2 hours and more and wouldn’t know you have spent much time and still have more to pen down.

It doesn’t have to make sense at first, but keep adding it in parts until the picture is built up.

Be bold enough to share it

The question anyone starting to write always asks is this, “is this piece good enough for anyone to read?” I remember a few years ago, no matter the recommendation anyone gives me as regards my writing, I don’t think it is good enough. It doesn’t just please me as much as the comments I get.

But, you just have to own your writing. Believe it is the best while working for it to get better.

Share it on your social media pages — in fact, this is one of the best places to share it to see people’s reactions and comments. But guide your emotions when you do that; hope for the best but plan for the worst.

Your posts that get good feeds on social media, make it a blog post on bigger platforms like Medium or LinkedIn. So that over the years, your post would not be lost.

If it is a short story you can explore Wattpad, and if it is a collection of short stories, you can self-publish it on Amazon KDP or Kobo or any other self-publication platform you wish to explore.

At the moment, it wouldn’t really matter if your work gets the right traction it needs yet, but when you are consistent and keep improving on what you are doing, just one of your work that goes viral we call people’s attention to your other works. And this is where your writing journey begins.

Conclusion

Don’t expect to be a pro at first, but be happy you have liberated yourself and the world is hearing your voice.

You are reading my voice here because of leverage — I am leveraging on Medium, you can leverage on an established platform and become an authority.

Before I conclude let me assert, “Writing is fun!” Just find your voice.
