It would rather be impossible to think that you have not subscribed to an e-mail list in these recent days when there is this louder awareness of e-mail marketing. You come across a blog you like or even when you are creating an account with some online store, you enter an e-mail, confirm your mail, and “boooom!” your email is captured for the list.

You must have heard the popular saying that “a bird at hand is worth more than a hundred in the bush.” That is how your client perceives you when you fill the e-mail sheet for them. You are worth more than any other person yet to subscribe. You are not the only one who saw the e-mail form and didn’t fill it out, yet you did.

Build an e-mail list and have a consistent ROI. The truth is e-mail campaigns are one of the easiest methods of digital marketing, but it yet gives a higher return on investment.

Did you know that every $1 spent on e-mail marketing has the potential of $38?

What is an e-mail list?

An e-mail list is a collection of e-mails that have been built up over time by subscribers to your blog or website.

B2B Email Marketing Statistics

  • Email is the third most influential source of information for B2B audiences, behind only colleague recommendations and industry-specific thought leaders.
  • 86% of business professionals prefer to use email when communicating for business purposes.
  • CTRs are 47% higher for B2B email campaigns than B2C email campaigns.
  • 59% of B2B marketers say email is their most effective channel in terms of revenue generation.
  • 56 percent of brands using emoji in their email subject lines had a higher open rate.
  • Tuesday is the best day of the week to send e-mail (according to 10 email marketing studies).

B2C Email Marketing Statistics

  • While 26% of SMBs polled use email marketing for sales, just 7% use email as a brand-building tool.
  • Only about 30% of US retail email list subscribers have actually made a purchase from the retailer whose email list they subscribed to.
  • Welcome emails are incredibly effective: on average, 320% more revenue is attributed to them on a per email basis than other promotional emails.
  • Consumers who purchase products through email spend 138% more than those that don’t receive email offers.
  • Email subscribers are 3x more likely to share content on social media than leads who came through another channel.
  • 80% of retail professionals indicate that email marketing is their greatest driver of customer retention (the next closest channel? Social media, identified by just 44% of those same professionals).
  • 77% of people prefer to get permission-based promotional messages via email (versus direct mail, text, phone, or social media).

Either a B2B or B2C business, e-mail marketing has a high Return on Investment for you. You cannot lose if you master the act.

I want to show you my personal tactics on how you can grow your e-mail list as a small business that runs on a low budget. One thing I want you to understand is that this strategy will work well when there is value. So, note the keyword here — “value”.

Strategy #1

Free E-book

I want you to think of this submission of an e-mail like an investor vs. a business. Also ushering in a friend with a gift — they will be happy for the value attached to them and they will become so open and free with you. This is what this strategy will look like.

Of course, you can have great traffic coming organically or through paid ads, but how do you keep them? They may stay on your site for hours enjoying your content and once they are done, they may never remember your URL anymore. All glancing at your posts, hoping to come back, but because nothing trapped them in, they left and forgot.

How do you make your first-time visitor visit again and even more stick on with you? There has to be more. And that is using free e-book tactics.

Step 1

I would recommend you have between 3 to 5 free e-books around your niche on your site which your visitors can download.

That’s where the game is, they wouldn’t download it just like that. They will have to fill in their names and e-mail addresses in exchange for the e-book. This is where you are exchanging value for their e-mails.

There are so many good premium plugins that can help you add a pop-up notification or leave the book at the bottom of your posts.

Once they fill the form, and an e-mail verification is done, then link probably to your drive, where the pdf is uploaded will be sent to them to download.

Once you have gotten their mails, you can manage the e-mails with ConvertKit, Sendinblue, or syteme.io.

These are e-mail providers I have used over time and they are good. Your choice will be based on your choice, customer base, or budget.

Note: As a beginner with little to no funds to buy software and tools, I will recommend you to use system.io to build your e-mail list. This is because of its robust and beginner-friendly plans.

Step 2

You may ask here? “How can I come up with an e-book?”

You don’t need to think further, all you need you already have. You may choose to turn your old blog post into a book or use free PLR sites such as free plr downloads. You will see a list of e-books to use for free. Download one and customize it, just a few adjustments so as not to seem monotonous, you may not know who might have used it before. You can add your name to the book. There is no copyright infringement.

If you want to convert your blog post to an e-book, you can use Canva; search for beautiful ‘magazine cover templates’ and edit it or you can use Google docs to create a word document then convert it to a pdf document.

Step 3

Add the e-book to your blog using a plugin extension and your e-mail service provider.

Before now, you should have set up the action that should trigger once anybody subscribes to that page, which should be an e-mail notification with the link to download the book after e-mail verification.

Strategy #2

Pico Workers

Source: Pinterest

Pico Workers is an online marketplace for a listing of small online tasks for freelancers who want to make a decent amount online or where businesses hire freelancers to perform some minor tasks which helps their businesses at a decent amount.

The type of listings done on Pico Workers is usually like subscribing to a YouTube channel, following a social media handle, testing an app, playing a game, or subscribing to a plan. Once these tasks are performed and you present the required evidence is presented when the task is over, you will be paid a certain amount.

This amount ranges between a few cents to a couple of amount of dollars.

This is basically how Pico workers functions. But you are going to create an account as a business. It does not really matter if you signed up as a freelancer or a business as you can always switch to whichever one you wish to, depending on what you need to do at a time.

After listing your job on Pico Workers, set a requirement(s) at which a freelancer should meet before you make the payment.

But since you want them to subscribe to your e-mail list, maybe to get notified about your posts and visit your site which is the traffic, you can ask them to show you that they received the e-mail sent to them after registration to send you the e-mail they used to register and also the welcome message they got when they registered.

You can craft your criteria like this:

You are required to visit (the link to your website, funnel, or landing page) and subscribe.

Register with your first name and working e-mail address. One person should not use multiple e-mails to create an account. This will disqualify you from receiving payments.

Once you are done, send a screenshot of your e-mail address and the welcome message you receive after registration.

You can also think of other measures to add to ensure that they subscribe.

You can choose to pay as little as $0.08 and set your budget for $53 for instance, this will mean you will get approximately 663 new subscribers to your e-mail list. And you can always repeat the process again and again.

It is worthy to note that this method may not get you targeted subscribers or long-term subscribers, but you can make something out of them. Even if they will choose to unsubscribe after they’ve been paid, all of them will not unsubscribe and you can convert them through warm-up e-mails.

Create an account with Pico Workers here for a special offer.

Please note that some of the links in this post are referral links, and purchasing through them means I will get a referral commission from you at no additional cost.
